Bags

Ananas Anam have developed an innovative, natural and sustainable non-woven textile called Piñatex™.

Piñatex™ is produced from the fibres of pineapple leaves which are a by-product of the pineapple harvest. Piñatex™ involves a patented technology that protects both the process and the finished material. While the initial development work leading to Piñatex™ originated in the Philippines, significant research & development is now being undertaken between the UK and Spain.

In 2014, SmithMatthias designed and handmade two bags and an Ipad case prototype to exhibit along side brands such as Puma and Camper and designers Ally Capellino, Patricia Moore and John Jenkins at THE PINEAPPLE SHOW at the Royal College of Art.

After lots of interest, we have developed a batch of bags, made in Scotland by Erlend Milne which are now available to buy from our online shop.

2016

Sir Kenneth Grange & SmithMatthias

Sir Kenneth Grange and SmithMatthias have once again teamed up to design a new range for Modus. The Spring table has a modest simplicity, an economical use of materials and is a first for Modus in that it comes flat packed. Ease of assembly, very few parts and a simple, yet robust, visible metal bracket to fit the legs characterise the Spring table. Continuing the leg top detail from an earlier collaboration with Modus (the March chair), Spring has a clarity brought about by its honesty of form.

Modus

2014

A collaboration with Sir Kenneth Grange for Modus. The April sofa is a distinctive, yet commercially compliant sofa collection that breaks the mould of other prosaic sofa designs.  Available as a chair, 2 seat, 3 seat, ottoman, corner unit and a curved sofa, it is aimed at ensuring good posture, with sculptural elegance and distinction, with particular attention to fabric combinations and detail to elevate the quality of the design.
