Ananas Anam have developed an innovative, natural and sustainable non-woven textile called Piñatex™.

Piñatex™ is produced from the fibres of pineapple leaves which are a by-product of the pineapple harvest. Piñatex™ involves a patented technology that protects both the process and the finished material. While the initial development work leading to Piñatex™ originated in the Philippines, significant research & development is now being undertaken between the UK and Spain.

In 2014, SmithMatthias designed and handmade two bags and an Ipad case prototype to exhibit at THE PINEAPPLE SHOW at the Royal College of Art. Following lots of interest, we have developed a batch of rucksacks, made in Scotland by Erlend Milne.

Approx. Dimensions (mm):

Overall H 340 x W 250 x D 80

Internal Pocket: W 150 x H 110

Materials:

Main body: Charcoal Piñatex™ (Piñatex™ composition consists of 80% pineapple leaf fibre and 20% PLA fibres.)  Accents: metallic gold or silver Piñatex™ pocket and inner flap. Straps: Cotton and Sisal chord/rope. Hardware: Anodised aluminium.

Care:

Ananas-Anam recommend the following to keep your Piñatex™ product in top condition:

Wax your Piñatex™ bag regularly with a natural wax for bags. It is also recommended to use a liquiproof protector, a natural non toxic coating that will make the product water and stain repellent. Follow instructions carefully. We recommend that you do not wash your bag.
